Patrol of the Knight-Commander

She chuckled, "I stayed with my lord. He was a stern man and tree-climbing was certainly out of the question."

Arriana nods, looking anywhere but at Isolde. "You were very strong-willed..."

"It was truly beautiful. I should like to go back one day. See how that tree has faired." She mused, "Do you like the city?"

Arriana quickly nods. "Yes, I do. There are times when I feel like a little...contained, but I just take a quick walk outside the walls, and I feel much better...."

She nodded, "They want you to feel contained, I think. I remain only because I have been called to do so. The city is not my love. Parthalan is."

Arriana looks up at the sky. "I understand how you feel...I would not lay my life down for this city, but I would for Parthalan..."

She nodded, "Which is why I sought knighthood as opposed to the guard."

Arriana blushes lightly. "I'm actually training to become a knight...."

"Oh really? It's not a profession many of your gender endeavor to become, if you don't mind me saying." she commented.

Arriana nods, not giving her reasons. "So, what does one usually expect during patrols?"

"Usually? Just drunken bar patrons. Occasionally a break in." she shrugged, "Nothing too difficult. I spend more time resolving disputes in the market than actually doing any real good."

Arriana smiles at Isolde, or more specifically, at her feet, too timid to look at the older woman. "I'm sure one day you'll do great things...."

"I hope to do just that." she exhaled, "Though you would go much farther if you were more confident, Arriana. You stare at the ground as though you were in love with it."

Arriana flushes with embarrassment. "O-Of course, ma'am..." She looked up, straight ahead.

She smiled, "I mean no hurt feeling by it. Consider it a piece of advice. Having the courage to look a man in the eye and say, 'I do not fear you' will carry you far in this line of work."

Arriana smiles. "Of course. Thank you, ma'am...."

"Think nothing of it." Isolde looked up and ducked into the shadows. She held a finger over her lips. There was a noise like glass breaking. She nodded her head. "Break in." she whispered.

Arriana ducked into the shadows with her. "What do we do?"

Isolde thought, "You go in through the front, and confront him. I'll come in the back door and catch him off guard."

She nods, drawing both of her swords. She slowly enters the front door, keeping on guard.

The thief didn't seem to notice her as Isolde moved around to the back with her sword and shield out.

Arriana put on a brave face, approaching the man. "You, stop where you are!"

The man froze and spun to face her, a knife drawn, "Watch it missus! Don't want to get yourself hurt."

She readied her swords. "I'll ask once. Stand down or face justice at my hands."

He chuckled, "You're just a girl. You can't hurt me."

Isolde crept behind him, holding the blade of her sword at his neck, "Care to rephrase that?"
